Crafting: New Scribble Shirts (and Giveaway Winners)

I'm in a bit of a crunch as this summer winds down. We have had a great time but there were so many other things I was thinking I would get done along the way. And so it goes... You might be wondering why I don't just permanently adjust my expectations. It's a good question. I guess I've always assumed that if I aim really high, but miss, I'll still end up someplace good! For the most part it seems to work.

So while I'm working away I thought I'd share a fun thing I did with a bunch of girls yesterday. Audrey had some classmates over for a playdate plus craft and we made Scribble Initial Shirts. I made freezer paper stencils with the initial for each girl and they used fabric markers to color in the space however they chose. (You can view the tutorial for a project like this here.) I think Audrey did a great job with hers. The others were really fun too. Truly individual.

For Tess, I cut out a stencil of three hearts and let her truly scribble. Ok, I admit, I pushed some color choices but the majority of the work was hers. Amazing how much they enjoy creating something they can wear. Tess's shirt reminds me of those melted crayon hearts that always pop up on Pinterest around Valentine's Day.

I also picked some winners at the end of last week. The winner of the Martha Stewart's Favorite Crafts for Kids book giveaway is Entry #40 Karen's F.  And the two winners of my new Bateau Neck Top pattern giveaway are Entry #139 Becky and Entry #150 susan h.  Congratulations! I've emailed all of you about your prizes.

Hope you are all making the most of August!

  1. Thank you again for the giveaway! I received the book in the mail this morning and it's absolutely wonderful! The Martha Stewart team also sent along paints, brushes, and clay to get us started. A very pleasant surprise indeed.

  2. Hi - I love this idea! I have been making 'freehand' sharpie tshirts with my boys this year but would love to try this. I am actually trying to start a small home business to sell some of the things I make. Would it be okay with you to use this idea in making some shirts? I live in Queensland, Australia
